The Area
The Area
One of the things we love most about Saltwater Grove is its location.
Less than three hours from the Bay Area and under two hours from Sacramento, the property sits at the center of an incredible range of experiences. Spend the day skiing at Kirkwood, exploring Gold Rush towns, visiting family-owned wineries, paddling alpine lakes, or hiking through the Sierra backcountry.
Or spend the entire weekend at the retreat and never leave the property.
The choice is yours.

45 minutes east
Kirkwood
Kirkwood Mountain Resort offers some of California's best skiing and snowboarding, with over 2,000 acres of terrain and an average of more than 350 inches of snowfall each year.
In winter, guests can spend the day on the mountain and return to Saltwater Grove for an evening in the pool, sauna, or hot tub.
In summer, the same area offers mountain biking, hiking, wildflowers, granite peaks, and cooler temperatures that make it a welcome escape from the valley heat.

25 minutes west
Shenandoah Valley Wine Country
The Shenandoah Valley AVA is one of California's hidden gems.
Known for its old-vine Zinfandels, Italian varietals, and family-owned wineries, the region offers a relaxed alternative to some of the state's more crowded wine destinations.
Spend an afternoon exploring tasting rooms such as Vino Noceto, Helwig, Andis, Story, Karmère, Fraser, and Renwood, then enjoy dinner in nearby Plymouth before returning to the retreat.

Within an hour
Lakes, Trails & The Sierra Backcountry
The Sierra foothills and surrounding mountains are filled with opportunities to explore.
Bear River Reservoir, Silver Lake, Caples Lake, and the Mokelumne River offer swimming, paddling, fishing, and quiet places to spend a summer afternoon.
For hikers, Carson Pass and the Mokelumne Wilderness provide miles of trails through forests, granite landscapes, alpine meadows, and mountain lakes.
Nearby Black Chasm Cavern, a National Natural Landmark, offers a completely different adventure beneath the surface, with remarkable crystal formations and underground chambers.

10–30 minutes away
Historic Gold Rush Towns
The communities surrounding Saltwater Grove still carry the character of California's Gold Rush era.
Explore the historic streets of Volcano, Sutter Creek, Jackson, Plymouth, and Pine Grove, where local shops, restaurants, wineries, and historic buildings create a sense of place that has largely disappeared elsewhere.
In spring, nearby Daffodil Hill becomes one of the region's most beloved seasonal destinations.
Return to the Grove
Come back to the same peaceful setting
One of the pleasures of staying at Saltwater Grove is knowing that whatever adventure you choose, you'll return to the same peaceful setting at the end of the day.
Spend the morning on a mountain, the afternoon at a winery, or the evening by a lake, then come back to the pool, sauna, hot tub, and the people you've gathered with.
Some of the best moments happen after you return.
